Swimming & Diving Wins on the Road at Colgate

The Syracuse University men's and women's swimming and diving teams improved to 2-0 on the season with victories against Colgate at the Lineberry Natatorium Saturday. The Orangewomen soundly defeated the Raiders, led by sophomore Elyse McDonough's (Delmar, N.Y.) three wins. Senior Djordje Filipovic (Belgrade, Yugoslavia) paced the men with three first-place finishes.
McDonough won the 50 freestyle (25.30) and the 100 butterfly (58.82) on her own. She teamed up with freshmen Sarah Reed (West Chester, Pa.) and Lisa Fong (Olympia, Wash.) and sophomore Annie Tudryn (Springfield, Mass.) to win the 200 medley relay.
Filipovic earned his three victories in the 200 freestyle (1:46.93), the 100 butterfly (52.65) and the 200 medley relay (1:38.20). His teammates in the relay were freshmen Gustavo Kertzscher (Skurup, Sweden), A.J. Newman (Narromine, Australia) and sophomore Spencer Raymond (Idstein, Germany).
In diving, sophomore Ricky Rodriguez (Long Beach, N.Y.) finished second on both the one and three-meter boards. Freshman George Gerard (Brookline, Mass.) was fourth in both events.
The Orangemen and Orangewomen will next be in action on Saturday, Oct. 27, at BIG EAST power Pittsburgh. Diving is scheduled to commence at 10 a.m., while swimming begins at 11 a.m.
