
Track & Field Travels to Texas Southern Relays

Leading the way last time out was senior 100-meter hurdle runner Opal Jones (Capitol Heights, MD) and sophomore discus thrower Tim Adrian (Moorpark, CA). Both won their respective events, qualifying for the BIG EAST and ECAC/IC4A championship meets.
Junior Alison Culley (Foxborough, MA) also continued her assault on the Orangewomen record book, breaking her own school record in the 100-meter dash. Culley finished fourth last time out in a school-record time of 11.76, .08 of a second faster than her previous record. It was the third consecutive meet that Culley broke one her own records after setting the indoor 60-meter dash mark at both the BIG EAST and ECAC championships.
Syracuse had four other top-five finishes at the Hurricane Invitational in Miami, FL last weekend. Sophomore Maria Varela (Deer Park, NY) and junior Aprelle Watkins (Virginia Beach, VA) each placed third in the 3,000-meter run and triple jump, respectively. Sophomore Aleccia Boland (London, Ontario) and senior Latoya Redden (Syracuse, NY/Henninger) finished fourth in the 1,500-meter run and the triple jump, respectively. All four qualified for the conference championship meet to be held at Rutgers on May 4-6.
The events in Houston begin on Friday morning and conclude on Saturday evening. The meet will also feature races in boys, girls, masters and olympic development divisions.
