
Orangemen Rally To Defeat Friars, 73-66

PROVIDENCE, RI -- Syracuse came back from an 11-point deficit in the second half to defeat Providence, 73-66, for the Orangemen's fourth straight win and second BIG EAST victory on Saturday afternoon at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. SU extended its record to 13-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference, while the Friars slipped to 9-6 and 0-2 in the BIG EAST.
Down 47-36 with 15:28 left in the game, Syracuse erupted on a 18-7 run to tie capped by a tip-in by junior Jeremy McNeil. Providence took a three-point lead, 59-56, after Christopher Anrin hit one of his six three-pointers in the game with 5:23 left in the second half. SU then outscore the Friars, 17-7 in the last five minutes of the game to seal the win.
Senior forward Preston Shumpert scored seven of his 12 points in the final run and junior Kueth Duany scored all of his 16 points in the second half to lead the come-from-behind victory. DeShaun Williams joined Shumpert and Duany in double figures with 16 points and five assists. McNeil finished with a squad-best 10 rebounds and three blocked shots.
Providence led by as much as seven points, 30-23, in the first half, before freshman Josh Pace started a 9-2 Orangemen run with two baskets that pulled Syracuse within one point of Providence at the half, 32-31. Pace finished the game with eight points.
Anrin led Providence with 20 points, and Ryan Gomes recorded a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds.
Syracuse looks to extend its four-game winning streak on Tuesday when it returns to the Carrier Dome for a matchup against BIG EAST rival Seton Hall. Tipoff is 7 p.m.
