
Six Double-Digit Scorers Lead the Orange Past Seton Hall, 85-70

SYRACUSE, NY - The 12th-ranked Orangemen defeated Seton Hall, 85-70, behind 61.1 percent shooting from the field and six players in double figures on Tuesday night in the Carrier Dome. Syracuse (14-2, 3-0) has now won five straight, including three BIG EAST victories. The Pirates slipped to 8-7 and 1-2 in the conference.
Preston Shumpert led all scorers with 19 points and freshman Craig Forth was perfect in the game, hitting all six of his field goals in the first half for a career-high 12 points.
The Orange scored nine unanswered points with 7:20 left in the first half to take 10-point lead, 29-19. A three-pointer by James Thues gave SU its largest lead in the half, 38-26, before entering intermission with a 40-28 advantage after a Forth dunk.
Seton Hall came within nine points of SU twice early in the second half - 40-31 and 43-34 - but the Orange responded with a 17-6 run to take its largest lead of the game, 66-40, with 8:18 left in the game. Junior DeShaun Williams scored 10 of his 18 in the second period and dished out seven assists.
Junior Kueth Duany recorded 13 points,while Jeremy McNeil and Thues each had 10 points. Thues also dished out a career-best nine assists and had six steals. McNeil's point total, on five-for-five shooting, represented his personal-best effort.
Andre Barrett led the Pirates with 18 points. Darius Lane and John Allen joined him in double figures with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Former Orangemen and assistant coach Louis Orr returned to Syracuse as head coach of the Pirates. He is the first BIG EAST player to serve as a head coach in the league.
Syracuse returns to action this Saturday when it travels to West Virginia to face the Mountaineers at 7 p.m.
