
Syracuse BIG EAST Tournament Run Ends Versus Boston College

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Syracuse women's basketball team lost its BIG EAST Championship semifinal matchup with #20/19 Boston College 67-48 on Monday, Mar. 4 at the Louis Brown Athletic Center on the campus of Rutgers University. The Orangewomen, the seventh seed in the tournament, are 18-12, while the third-seeded Eagles improved are 23-6.
Syracuse struggled all game from the field, connecting on a season-low 24 percent of its field goals (12-for-50). The Orangewomen managed only four field goals in the first half and scored a season-low 17 points in the opening stanza.
The score was tied 13-13 with 10:22 remaining in the first half, but Boston College ran off a 17-4 run to end the half with a 30-17 lead. Syracuse did not hit a shot from the field during the final 10:35 of the half. Syracuse's offensive troubles continued in the second half. The Eagles opened the period with a 17-4 run to take a 47-21 advantage with 11:47 left in the game.
Senior guard Jaime James (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) led Syracuse with 15 points, including three three-pointers. Sophomore Shannon Perry (Providence, R.I./LaSalle) also scored in double figures with 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Jessalyn Deveny led the Eagles with her first career double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds. Clare Droesch added 12 points, while Amber Jacobs hit for 10 points.
Boston College is the first team this season to beat the Orangewomen twice. The Eagles will face top-ranked Connecticut in the championship game on Tuesday.
Syracuse's 18 wins are the most for the program since the 1987-88 squad won 22 games and qualified for the NCAA Tournament. The Orangewomen are still in contention for a postseason berth, and will find out their fate on Sunday, March 10. The NCAA selection show will be broadcast by ESPN at 5 p.m.
