Orangewomen's Varsity Four B Defeats Radcliffe, Dartmouth

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — In rowing, the Syracuse University women's varsity four B raced past Radcliffe and Dartmouth on Saturday, April 20, on Onondaga Lake in Syracuse, N.Y. The varsity four B's win represents SU's only first-place showing on the day.
Sophomore Aliza Seeber (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) coxed the varsity four B, while sophomore Courtney Meek (Jacksonville, Fla./Stanton College Preparatory School) was the stroke. Senior Louise Hendrickson (San Francisco, Calif./Lowell HS) was three seat, sophomore Trista Ristvedt (Oak Ridge, Tenn./ Oak Ridge HS) was the two seat and junior Emily Havalchak (Corning, N.Y./Corning East) was in the bow seat.
In the varsity eight race, No.10 Radcliffe edged the 12th-ranked Orangewomen by five seconds, Dartmouth placed third. Radcliffe won the junior varsity eight race, crossing the finish line in 7:09.7. SU placed second finishing in 7:16.2. Radcliffe also won the varsity four A race in a time of 7:57.2, six-and-one-half seconds faster than the Orangewomen' second-place showing.
Syracuse came in second in the first novice eight race with a time of 7:19.7. Radcliffe won the race in 7:12.8. Radcliffe also won the second novice eight/third varsity race, crossing the finish line in 7:45.4. SU came in third with a time of 8:06.8.
The Orangewomen head to Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. to defend their 2001 BIG EAST Rowing Challenge title. The 2002 regatta takes place on Sunday, April 28.
