
Wayne Earns BIG EAST Weekly Honors For The Third Time

PROVIDENCE, RI - Syracuse women’s lacrosse player Kim Wayne (Scarsdale, NY/Scarsdale)received BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors for the week of May 6. This is the third time in 2002 that Wayne has earned BIG EAST honors.
Wayne registered seven points on four goals and three assists and contributed a team-high six draw controls in SU’s 18-9 win against No. 13 Dartmouth on Sunday, May 4. The four goals was a career high for the junior midfielder. With her assist on the team’s ninth goal of the game, Wayne became the school’s all-time assists leader with 57. She had been tied with Katrina Hable ‘01 for the top spot.
Wayne is tied for first on the team in points with 55 on 23 goals and 32 assists and is ranked No. 3 in the nation in assists per game (2.07) through games of April 28. The midfielder’s 10 points versus Connecticut is tied for the second-highest total in a single game this season. Her seven assists against the Huskies is tied for the highest total by a player in 2002.
Wayne set two school records in the 19-11 win against the Huskies on Saturday, March 30. She scored three goals and dished out seven assists, setting a record for most points in a single game with 10. With her seven assists, Wayne set the record for most assists in a season. She also tied her own school record for most assists in a game with seven.
The 16th-ranked Orangewomen completed the regular season with a 10-5 record and finished third in the BIG EAST Conference at 3-3 behind Georgetown and Notre Dame. Syracuse received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament and will face fourth-seed Cornell on Thursday, May 9 at 4 p.m. in Ithaca, NY.
