SU has a chance to take the lead in the West Division race with a victory on Saturday, and if Pittsburgh loses its game against Seton Hall. If the Orangemen win and the Panthers are victorious, SU will move past the Irish into second place in the West. Notre Dame has won five of its last six games, including a 66-64 home triumph against Pittsburgh on Feb. 9.
Syracuse hopes to rebound from a 76-61 loss at Connecticut on Feb. 10 when it returns to the friendly atmosphere of the Dome. Freshman Carmelo Anthony scored 29 points for the second consecutive game in the loss. Anthony currently ranks third in the NCAA among freshman scorers (21.5), and with an average of 9.55 per game, he is the top freshman rebounder in the country.
Notre Dame's win against Pittsburgh was its first against a top-five team at home since the Irish beat 4/2 UCLA, 79-63, on February 5, 1994. Chris Thomas scored 24 points and dished out eight assists in the victory. Matt Carroll added 14 points, including 4-of-4 from three-point range. Carroll is averaging a team-best 20.6 points per game, including 22.0 points per BIG EAST outing.
Fans can listen to the game in the Syracuse area on the SU Radio Network, 1260 AM. Voice of the Orange Mark Johnson will handle the play-by-play duties, while Matt Park will provide color commentary. The game will also be televised on ESPN with Dave O'Brien and Len Elmore calling the plays.
