Georgetown pushed SU in the No. 1 and No. 5 singles matches. Liora Gelblum took senior Daniela Kaluskova to three sets, but Kaluskova managed to win her first No. 1 singles match of the spring, 6-4, 0-6, 6-2. Junior Jessica Schlosser moved up to No. 5 singles for the weekend, and narrowly escaped with a 7-6, 5-7, 10-8 win against Monisha Ghia.
In doubles, Syracuse won both No. 1 and No. 3 by scores of 8-4. At No. 2 doubles, Georgetown secured its only win, 9-7, as Jordan Botjer and Ghia defeated sophomore Kristine Bech Holte and junior Alexa Konstand, who saw her first competition of the season.
Seniors Masha Kabanova and Shervin Saedinia paired to win at No. 1 doubles, and they each won their singles match, Kabanova at No. 2 and Saedinia at No. 3. With her two wins, Kabanova took sole possession of sixth place on SU’s Century Club list with 137 career victories, passing Kathy Bradford (1986-90). Saedinia leapt from 14th to a three-way tie for 11th with her pair of wins. With 129 career victories, Saedinia is tied with Zuzanna Borucka (1997-01) and Nicole Strnadova (1994-98). She needs two more wins to move into the top 10. It will mark the first time since 1995 that two Syracuse tennis players will enter the top 10 on the career wins list in the same season (Erica O’Neill, 2nd, 161 wins; Sara Dickson, 8th, 135 wins).
The Orangewomen travel to nearby Cornell University for the third time this season on March 1. Syracuse will face Western Michigan in Ithaca on Saturday afternoon after the Broncos face the Big Red at 10:00 a.m. On Sunday, the Orangewomen will take on Cornell in a dual match at 1:00 p.m.
