
Tennis Orangewomen Lose Opener to Colgate, 4-3

Juliussen and Leong teamed up to defeat Marissa Alikpala and Sheila Rao at No. 1 doubles, but Colgate won the point to go up 1-0. In singles, Leong defeated Rao at the No. 5 spot, and Juliussen won against Jamie Maldow, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 2. After freshman Katie Bramante lost her No. 3 match, 6-4, 6-3, and senior Jessica Schlosser lost at No. 4, 7-6, 6-3, the Raiders held a 3-2 advantage. Lipton defeated Alikpala at the No. 1 spot, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4, to tie the score.
With the teams tied, 3-3, the deciding match was at No. 6 singles. Freshman Kendyl Severino battled Colgate's Allison Stoloff until nearly 10:30 p.m., before losing in three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.
Syracuse plays its first home match of the spring season on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 1:00 p.m., against Dartmouth at Drumlins Tennis Courts.
