Warrick and Pace Record Double-Doubles in Orange Victory

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – National Player of the Year candidate Hakim Warrick recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 rebounds and senior Josh Pace recorded his first career double-double with 14 points and a career-high 10 rebounds, to lead the #3/5 Orange (6-0) past the St. Bonaventure Bonnies (0-4), 91-67 on Wednesday night in the Carrier Dome.
The Orange jumped out to a 12-4 lead in the opening four minutes, with four points from both Pace and sophomore Demetris Nichols. The Bonnies stayed within a single-digit deficit until the 11:41 mark when SU would go ahead by 10, 18-8. Syracuse took an 18-point lead, 30-12, with 9:12 remaining as it went on a 7-0 run in just over one minute. Warrick chipped in four points and sophomore Darryl Watkins contributed three during the stretch.
St. Bonaventure cut the margin to nine, 31-22, with 5:49 remaining as it went on a 10-1 run of its own. SU held the Bonnies to only two points during the last four and a half minutes of the stanza as the Orange utilized a 10-2 run led by Warrick's five points to end the half with its largest lead, 46-26. Warrick had 13 points and seven rebounds at the half, while Pace had collected 10 points and eight boards.
Both teams went on a scoring frenzy beginning at the 10:53 mark of the second halfwith a combined 14-straight made baskets from the field, as each team scored 16 points during a four and a half minute span. Watkins chipped in six points for the Orange during the stretch, while Wade Dunston had nine for the Bonnies. The final score of 91-67 was three shy of Syracuse's largest margin of the contest.
Warrick's team-leading 18 points included a 7-of-10 effort from the field and 4-of-8 from the foul line. He had a team-best 11 boards and two blocks. Pace had a season-high 14 points, including 5-of-7 from the field and 4-of-5 from the foul line, to go along with his career-high 10 rebounds. McNamara finished with 17 points and four assists. Watkins equaled his season and career-high 12 points, while freshman Josh Wright had a career-high six assists in 15 minutes of action.
Syracuse converted 32-of-58 (.552) from the field and 23-of-35 (.657) from the free-throw line. SU also held the rebound edge, 41-33.
The game marked the first season action of SU junior guard Billy Edelin. He was greeted by a standing ovation when he checked in with 8:44 left in the first half.
SU had won its last 30 games against New York State foes, a streak that dates back to the 1999-00 campaign.
SU continues its home stand against Colgate on December 4 at 7:00 p.m. in the Carrier Dome.
