SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Junior #Hakim Warrick# tallied 28 points, the most for any Orangeman ever against Notre Dame, but it wasn't enough as the Irish (13-9, 7-5) stopped #arv/25 Syracuse (16-6, 6-5), 84-72, on Feb. 16.
Warrick was 9-of-20 from the floor and made 10-of-12 free throws in the contest. Four SU players had previously tallied 26 points versus the Irish. The most recent was #Billy Edelin#'s 26-point showing on March 4, 2003. Warrick also tied Etan Thomas for the most rebounds against Notre Dame, with a season-best 16 and blocked a season-high four shots. Etan Thomas pulled down 16 caroms against the Irish twice in his career, most recently at Notre Dame in 1999-2000.
SU trailed 38-29 at halftime and went on an 8-3 run to make the score 41-40 with 16:47 left. Warrick scored six consecutive points during the stretch. McNamara contributed 20 points, including three three-point field goals. He launched 15 treys during the course of the game, one shy of the team record of 16 held by Marius Janulis. He now has 72 three's for the season, two fewer than Matt Roe, who holds the SU record for a sophomore with 74 in 1987-88. Freshman #Louie McCroskey# recorded a personal-best nine points of the bench for the Orange, topping his previous career-high of eight.
Notre Dame's Chris Thomas topped the 20-point plateau for the fourth straight game. He paced the Irish with 25. Chris Quinn contributed 22 points and Torrian Jones recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
McNamara scored the first five points of the contest, but the Irish rebounded with seven of their own to take a two-point edge with 16:53 left in the first half.
