
SU Field Hockey Continues to Roll, Defeats Cornell, 4-0

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Junior forward Paige Sullivan (Lebanon, Pa./Lebanon) scored a career-high two goals to help the No. 16-ranked Syracuse field hockey team to a 4-0 victory against Cornell. It was the first shutout of the season for the Orange, who won its fifth-straight game and improved its record to 6-4 on the season. SU remained unbeaten against the Big Red for the 21st time since 1984, and extended its all-time series record against Cornell to 21-1-1.
Sullivan was first to strike for Syracuse with an unassisted goal just 1:42 into the contest. Senior Brittany Carriero (Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) gave SU a 2-0 lead with her third goal of the season at the 29:03 mark of the first half. She scored on a reverse-stick sweep. The Orange outshot Cornell, 15-0, in the first half and had 14 penalty-corner chances.
In the second period, Sullivan notched her third goal of the season at the 23:40 mark off an assist from freshman Courtnie Geissler (Leesport, Pa./Schuylkill Valley).
SU took a 4-0 lead when junior midfielder Jessica Dahle (Farmington, Conn./Farmington) recorded her first collegiate goal off a penalty stroke with 18:17 remaining in the contest.
For the game, the Orange outshot the Big Red, 23-4. Senior Betsy Wagner (Cherry Hills, Colo./Colorado Academy), who added ECAC Goalkeeper of the Week honors to her recent list of accomplishments, turned aside three shots.
Syracuse takes its five-game winning streak to Amherst, Mass. on Sat., Oct. 2, to face unranked Massachsuetts, who is 2-8 on the season after losing a 2-1 decision to Providence Wednesday night.
