Boeheim Gets 300th BIG EAST Win Against Notre Dame, 70-61

SOUTH BEND, IND. – Jim Boeheim became the first coach to reach 300 BIG EAST victories in #6/7 Syracuse's (16-1, 3-0) 70-61 win against Notre Dame (10-3, 2-1) at the Joyce Center.
The win is Boeheim's 692nd of his career and he is now eight wins away from joining the exclusive group of Division I coaches who directed 700 career victories.
The Orange trailed by eight, 51-43, at the 14:12 mark in the second half and went on a 22-6 run during the next 11 minutes to put the Orange ahead 65-57. Terrence Roberts and Josh Pace led the way for the Orange during the run with six points each, while Hakim Warrick had four points and Billy Edelin, Gerry McNamara and Craig Forth each contributed two points. The clubs matched scores until a Pace jumper from the paint put Syracuse ahead, 59-57, the first lead for the Orange since the opening minute of the half. The Orange only allowed one Irish basket from the field during the run and two baskets during the final 10 minutes of the contest.
The game went back-and-forth during the opening 15 minutes of the first half with nine lead changes and six ties. SU, behind by four, 31-27, at the 4:30 mark, took control and finished the stanza on an 11-3 run, and SU led 38-34 at the half.
Notre Dame opened the second half with a 15-3 run during the first four and a half minutes to open up the first eight-point lead, 49-41, for Notre Dame.
McNamara led SU with 22 points, including four three's and for 244 in his career, five shy of tying Preston Shumpert on SU's all-time three-point ledger.
Pace finished with 16 points, four rebounds and four assists. Forth had a season-high 11 boards and five points while playing a career-high 36 minutes for the Orange. Edelin, seeing the most playing time so far this season with 24 minutes, had a career-high seven steals, two more than his total entering the contest. Warrick had 12 points and five rebounds.
Torin Francis led the way for the Irish with 15 points and nine rebounds. Colin Falls finished with 14 points and Chris Quinn had 13 points.
Syracuse continues it road stretch when it travels to Providence on Saturday, Jan. 15 for a 1:00 p.m. tip with the Friars.
