
SU Defeats Binghamton, 20-1

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Led by senior Monica Joines and sophomore Gaddy Fortune with four goals each, the #12 Syracuse women's lacrosse team (2-0) defeated Binghamton (0-2), 20-1, at the Carrier Dome on Wednesday night, March 2.
Joines moved into fifth for career goals at SU with 93. She trails Jenna Szyluk with 102.
It is the most goals SU has scored since March 30, 2004 when the Orange defeated Colgate, 21-9. It is the fewest goals allowed by the Orange since the 1998 season, when SU shutout Connecticut on March 28, 20-0, and Siena on March 17, 19-0.
While Joines and Fortune had four points all on goals, senior Caitlyn Dragon scored two goals and handed out two assists and junior Melody Agnew scored three goals while dishing out one assist.
Sophomore Jill DePetris and freshman Kristin Brady also scored for the Orange with two goals apiece.
Junior Jen Kasel played all 60 minutes in the net for Syracuse, allow one goal while making one save and getting three ground balls.
Binghamton's goal was scored by Danielle Edwards 47:23 into the contest.
Syracuse took 35 shots in the contest, 30 in the first half, compared to only three by the Bearcats.
The Orange welcome the 2004 national champions Virginia into the Carrier Dome on Saturday, March 5 at 12:00 p.m. The women's will play the first game of the doubleheader, while the SU men's team will play at 3:00 against Virginia.
