Orange Earns Sweep of Army

West Point, N.Y. - The Syracuse women's tennis team earned a 7-0 sweep of Army at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center on Friday afternoon, March 4. Syracuse is now 8-3, 3-0 in the BIG EAST.
Syracuse continued to use its strong doubles teams to set the early tone of the match, winning at all three positions. Freshmen duo Victoria Vaynberg and Catherine Zawadzki defeated Marissa Limsiaco and Amy Morganstern, 8-6, at the top spot. Junior Wei-Ming Leong and sophomore Katie Bramante, won at the No. 2 position, 8-2, against Megan Noble and Jenn Segar, while sophomore Ashley Lipton and Carolina Huignard defeated Pam Chavez and Amanda Paluch, 8-0, in the No. 3 spot.
SU won all six singles matches in two sets. Vaynberg continued to dominate at the No. 1 position with a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Limsiaco. Zawadzki had a 6-4, 6-3 victory against Christine Ong at the No. 2 spot, while Lipton defeated Morganstern, 6-4, 6-1, in the No. 3 spot.
Huignard defeated Noble, 6-2, 6-2, Bramante won 6-0, 6-0, against Segar and Leong defeated Paluch, 6-4, 6-2, at the four through six spots, respectively.
The Orange will travel to California during spring break for three matches. Syracuse first competes against Yale on March 14. SU then plays Loyola Marymount on March 15 and Fresno State on March 17.
