The Syracuse Orange men's cross country team earned votes for the first time in school history in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) weekly national poll. The Orange received two votes in the poll, placing Syracuse as one of the elite cross country teams in the nation.
Syracuse placed third out of 38 teams at the NCAA Northeast Regional on November 11 in Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y. Syracuse just missed automatically qualifying for the NCAA Championship by one place. The Orange’s performance at the meet was its best ever, topping a previous best of 10th place in 2004.
The Orange also moved up to its highest regional ranking in school history, placing third in the Northeast Region behind only No. 4 Iona and No. 11 Providence. The Orange jumped three spots from number six in the previous week’s poll following its strong showing at the NCAA Regional.
The Orange was led by strong performances from sophomore Jeff Scull, senior Chris Muldoon and freshmen Dan Busby and Jay Koloseus. All four athletes were named to the All Northeast-Region Team for their accomplishments in the meet. Busby and Koloseus were the only freshman to earn all-region accolades.
