WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Sophomore forward Jeff Green netted 18 points and five rebounds to lead #23/23 Georgetown to a 68-53 victory against Syracuse at the MCI Center. The loss halted a two-game win streak for the Orange. The Hoyas improved their season record to 18-7, 9-5 in the BIG EAST Conference, while SU now finds itself with a 19-9 overall record and a 7-7 mark in league play. Eric Devendorf led the 'Cuse with 13 points, five rebounds and four assists. Darryl Watkins added 12 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots.
Demetris Nichols put the Orange out in front early when he hit the game's first basket and followed up by hitting a three pointer to give the Orange a 6-2 advantage with 15:24 remaining in the first half.
Green erased the early SU lead, scoring six-straight points for the Hoyas to take an 8-6 lead with 12:27 to play in the first half. Georgetown built a four-point lead before SU crawled back within one after a Terrence Roberts dunk. Louie McCroskey drove the lane for a layup to cut the deficit to one, 12-11, with 11:04 to play in the half.

A pair of free throws by Georgetown's Ashanti Cook increased the Hoya lead to seven, 22-15, but Eric Devendorf hit two three's in less than a minute to bring the Orange within one with 4:57 left in the half. SU tied the score at 27-27 after a pair of Darryl Watkins free throws.

GU's Roy Hibbert grabbed an offensive rebound and was fouled in the act of shooting. He made the basket and the ensuing free throw to help the Hoyas to a 33-30 halftime edge.

The two teams traded 3-pointers to start the second stanza. Georgetown outscored SU, 10-5, in the first five minutes to take a 43-35 lead. The Orange would never get closer than three points the rest of the way.

Darrel Owens scored 10 of his 12 points for Georgetown during an important stretch in the second half in which the Hoyas opened up a 12-point advantage, 58-46. By the 8:21 mark, Owens nailed two 3-pointers and two layups.Â

Brandon Bowman netted four free throws to extend GU's lead to a 62-51 margin with 5:48 remaining.Â

For the game, Georgetown sank 19-of-25 free throws. SU was just 5-of-9 from the line.

Ashanti Cook and Jonathan Wallace each finished with 10 points for Georgetown. Hibbert led the squad with seven rebounds.

Gerry McNamara scored eight points (two 3-pointers) and passed out six assists. Matt Gorman played a career-high 23 minutes and finished with four points and six rebounds.
