SYRACUSE, N.Y.- The Syracuse Orange men’s rowing team is in Tampa, Fla. this week in its final preparations for the spring cup season. SU brings a great deal of confidence into the spring season after having several strong showings in the fall. This week in Florida, the Orange will focus on technique and getting boat feel back early in the week before doing seat racing to close out the week.
In the fall, SU had a stellar outing at the Princeton Chase with both the varsity four and eight boats rowing to third place finishes. Competing in both the fours and the eights at the Princeton Chase were senior Dan O’Shaughnessy (Elizabeth, Ontario), and juniors Justin Stangel (Madison, Wisc.), Bartoz Szczyrba (Poznan, Poland) and Chad Taylor (New Milford, Conn.).
SU head coach Dave Reischman is just as confident in his team now as he was at the conclusion of the fall season.
“We have had a very positive winter training session and the guys are pretty eager to get out on the water and start selection,” Reischman said. “Some of our younger athletes did a great job this winter of buckling down and really improving their fitness.”
The Orange will begin its spring season on April 8 when it competes in the Ten Eyck Cup in New Brunswick, N.J. before returning home to host Navy in the Goes Trophy race at Onondaga Lake on April 15.
