Camden, N.J.-The 2007 IRA Regatta came to a close on Saturday with five Syracuse boats in competition. Both Syracuse varsity fours competed in grand finals. The varsity four without coxswain came in third place, the highest finish of any Orange boat. The varsity open four placed sixth in the grand final. The Syracuse JV eight boat took third place in the second varsity petite final, while the varsity eight came in fifth place and the freshman eight came in fourth place, both in third level finals.
In the varsity four without coxswain grand final, Syracuse, in lane one, finished with a time of 6:22.466 to claim third place overall. Navy won the race (6:18.138) and Hobart narrowly beat the Orange for second place (6:21.842). In the varsity open four grand final, Syracuse, racing in lane five, came in sixth place overall with a time of 6:51.847.
The Syracuse JV eight raced in the petite final, just as it was at Eastern Sprints. The Orange did not win the petite race on Saturday, as they did at Sprints, coming in third place with a time of 5:53.866. The Orange finished ninth overall in the second varsity classification. The Harvard B boat won the race (5:50.204), followed by Penn in second (5:51.331).
The Orange varsity and freshman eights were both in third level finals on Saturday. The varsity eight came in fifth place with a time 5:48.922 and finished 17th place overall in the regatta. The freshman eight took fourth place with a time of 6:04.989 to claim 16th place overall. Boston (5:44.678) won the varsity eight third level final and Wisconsin (5:54.788) took the top spot in the freshman race.
