Orange Field Hockey Remains Unblemished with 16-0 Thrashing of Georgetown; School Records Broken

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The second-ranked Syracuse Orange field hockey team remained unbeaten with a 16-0 thrashing on BIG EAST rival Georgetown tonight at the University of Maryland Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex in College Park, Md. The Orange improved to 13-0 overall and 3-0 in the BIG EAST, while the Hoyas are now to 0-11 overall and 0-2 in the league.
“We did a great job of refocusing after a tough week a practice,” said head coach Ange Bradley. “It was a good trip for us. We played with a lot of energy, intensity and ball speed.”
Syracuse’s 16 goals set the standard upon which all other Orange teams will be judged. SU’s 11 goals in the first half eclipsed the record of seven. Senior midfielder Shannon Taylor posted a school-record nine points (school-three goals and three assists).
Freshman midfielder Martina Loncarica tallied eight points off three goals and three assists. Sophomore forward Kristen Girouard recorded six points off two goals and two assists. Sophomore forward Lindsey Conrad notched five points off two goals and one assist. Sophomore back Maggie Befort registered four points off one goal and two assists. Senior forward Tracy Detrick recorded four points off two goals. Freshman back Anne-Sophie Van der Post, sophomore forward Shelby Schraden and freshman midfielder Mariana Vernet each scored one goal for the Orange. Freshman forward Nicole Nelson had one assist.
The Syracuse attack was almost immediate as the Orange came out and scored less than two minutes into the game when Van der Post put home a rebound at 1:27. The Orange scored back-to-back goals six seconds apart at 7:09 and 7:15 to make it 3-0. During a 10-minute period, Syracuse added four more scores including two off of corners. SU concluded the half leading 11-0 scoring four goals in the final 13 minutes.

Taylor led the Orange for the half with three goals and two assists, eight additional players scored throughout the period. Loncarica and Befort each had a pair of assists for the half. The Orange outshot the Hoyas, 34-1.
Loncarica hit her second goal of the game at 38:38. Two quick goals added to the total late and Deitrick scored the last with three minutes remaining making the final 16-0.
The Orange outshot the Hoyas, 48-3, and took 18 corners to GU's two. Senior goalkeeper Heather Hess and sophomore goalkeeper Christina Puggi combined for two saves.
