SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Orange continues to create history this weekend when Syracuse entertains league-opponent, Mercyhurst College, at the Onondaga County War Memorial on Friday night, November 14, at 7 p.m. Friday's bout will be the first time the War Memorial will host a Syracuse collegiate ice hockey game. Following the first game against the Lakers, Syracuse returns to Tennity Ice Pavilion to wrap up the two-game conference stint against Mercyhurst at 2 p.m.
Two weeks ago, Syracuse hosted its first home weekend series in program history two weeks ago at Tennity where the Orange defeated Sacred Heart in convincing fashion, 10-0 and 7-3. This weekend, SU looks to continue its three-game win streak.
Admission to Friday night's game at the War Memorial is free. There are multiple options for parking provided around the facility (see above link) and the gates will open 90 minutes prior to the puck drop at 5:30 p.m. The War Memorial's address is:

Orange Crush
In the combined 17-3 score against Sacred Heart over Halloween weekend, the Orange delivered numerous program records and firsts at Tennity Ice Pavilion. Some of those marks include: Syracuse posted six goals in the first period on Friday night…SU attempted 49 shots on net in the first home game…The Orange scored its first short-handed goal in program history on Friday and repeated the feat twice more later in the contest…Five players scored their first goal for Syracuse on Friday…Three powerplay tallies were recorded on Saturday…SU secured its second consecutive shutout after Friday's victory…Head coach Paul Flanagan won his 233rd career game on Saturday.
Orange Originals
The home opening weekend for the Orange yielded the first points for numerous Syracuse skaters. On Friday night against Sacred Heart, Jessica Frump, Rebecca Gordon, Kylie Klassen, Nikki Leone and Rachel Tilford each netted their first goal for SU while Keeta Koalska churned out her first points of the season with two assists on Friday, as well. On Saturday versus SHU, Taylor Metcalfe earned her first point of the year on an assist. In that game, junior netminder Alison Lee made her first appearance in net for Syracuse. Lee turned away eight shots and surrendered two goals.
Odd-Man Out
The Syracuse powerplay and penalty killing units were in full-effect in Tennity's first action last weekend. Stefanie Marty notched the Orange's first short-handed goal in program history after stealing the puck and faking out SHU's goaltender. Syracuse piled on Marty's momentum as Megan Skelly and Julie Rising each added another short-handed tally later in Friday's affair for a three short-handed tallies in a single game. On the flipside, the Syracuse powerplay attacked the Pioneers defense for a program-record three times. Nikki Leone, Rising and Marty all found the back of the net with the man-advantage in Syracuse's second game against SHU.
Plus/Minus Positives
After Syracuse's thrashing of Sacred Heart, 14 of 17 student-athletes possess a positive plus/minus rating. Defensemen Taylor Metcalfe and Nikki Leone have compiled a team-leading +5 rating while Kelly Dimmen, Kylie Klassen, Stefanie Marty and Lisa Mullan all rest at +4.
Two-Point Tango
Three Orange secured their first two-point games over the Sacred Heart weekend. Kylie Klassen scored her first career goal and dished out an assist on Friday whereas Cheyenne Bojeski put in her second goal of the year and registered her first assist on Saturday. Nikki Leone put forth a strong showing in each game against the Pioneers, manufacturing a goal and an assist on Friday and then scoring two goals in Saturday, including her first powerplay marker.
Syracuse Streaks
There are eight Orange players that are carrying a pointstreak into the Mercyhurst weekend. Stefanie Marty has assembled a five-game point streak, including three goals and four assists. Julie Rising has been on a four game tear by attaining four goals and four assists in the Quinnipiac and Sacred Heart series. Nikki Leone, Janelle Malcolm, Lisa Mullan, Megan Skelly and Rachel Tilford each look to add another couple games to their stretch against Mercyhurst.
Rising to the Occasion
Co-captain Julie Rising tallied a program-best four points in a single game on Friday against Sacred Heart. The Anchorage, Alaska. native scored two goals, including her first short-handed marker, and two assists in the 10-0 triumph. Rising went on to dump in her first powerplay goal for the Orange in the 7-3 win to continue her four-game pointstreak. The sophomore forward is tied for sixth in the CHA with 0.89 points per game and tied for seventh in goals and assists with 0.44 per game, each.
Frump's First
Newly-added forward Jessica Frump made a splash in her first game wearing the Orange sweater in the weekend opener. The Saugus, Calif. native etched her name in Tennity Ice Pavilion history by scoring the first goal for Syracuse which proved to be the game-winner in the 10-0 pasting of the Pioneers. Frump is tied for third in the league with one game-winning goal.
Schoedel Shuts Out Second Consecutive Squad
Lucy Schoedel achieved her second consecutive shutout game after thwarting 19 Pioneers' shots on Friday night. Schoedel has turned away 44 straight shots in roughly seven and a half scoreless frames of play. On Saturday, Schoedel had a tranquil first period as she faced only four shots in the first period. Schoedel's streak of stopped shots rests at 44, stretching back to the backend of the Quinnipiac weekend. Through nine games, Schoedel has stopped 212 shots for a .910 save percentage, which is currently tied for third in the CHA. The Ithaca, N.Y. product has allowed 2.63 goals per game.
Scrappy Skelly
Megan Skelly may be easy to locate on the ice because she is usually the tussling around on the boards with the opponent, but her uncompromising demeanor on the ice can be backed up with her team-leading five goals and two CHA Rookie of the Week awards. In the SHU weekend, Skelly recorded four points, including her second powerplay goal en route to her first career three-point game. Skelly is tied for second in the CHA in freshmen scoring with 0.89 points per game, which is also good enough for T-sixth, overall, in the league. The Taber, Alberta native is tied for third with 0.56 goals per game and 0.22 powerplay goals per contest.
Mullan Lends a Helping Hand
Against Sacred Heart, Lisa Mullan compiled three points, all by way of an assist in Saturday's match. Mullan is the first Orange skater to have doled out three helpers in one game. Mullan is tied for second in the CHA with 0.78 assists per game and tied for sixth in points with 0.89 per game.
Leone Lashes Out for a Big Performance
Defender Nikki Leone had two assists heading into the Sacred Heart series, but was held scoreless through the first seven games. The senior Quinnipiac transfer ended that drought very quickly after tallying her first Syracuse goal on Friday and then pumping two more in on Saturday, including her first powerplay marker. The Trenton, Ontario native added her third assist on Friday. Leone is the second highest defensive scorer in the CHA with 0.67 points per game.
Matchup with Mercyhurst
The Orange has gone up against one of the stiffest tests possible this season when SU took on now top-ranked Wisconsin in its second and third games of the season, but this weekend, Syracuse will be challenged again when the Mercyhurst Lakers sail into Central New York. The squad based out of Erie, Pa. has claimed the CHA crown the past six seasons. In the Lakers first two runs of the season, Mercyhurst split with seventh-ranked Boston University. MC went on to sink RPI by two-game total of 6-2. Since then, Mercyhurst has gone 1-3, losing three games in a row, including two to Clarkson and one to Colgate, before redeeming itself against the Raiders in overtime, 4-3. Senior Hayley McMeekin and freshman Bailey Bram each cart a team-best seven points at the Onondaga County War Memorial. Freshman netminder Hillary Pattenden has stopped 108 shots en route to a 4-1 record. Her save percentage rests at .908.
