
Juniors Brad Miller and Dan Busby will represent the Orange in Terre Haute, Ind. at the 2008 NCAA Cross Country Championship along with the first women's team to accomplish the feat in school history.
Miller and Busby Join Women at the NCAA Cross Country Championship

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse's first women's cross country squad to run as a team at the NCAA Cross Country Championship will have some more Orange company alongside them next Monday as juniors Brad Miller and Dan Busby qualified as individuals to run in the season finale. Their ninth and 10th place finishes, correspondingly, at the NCAA Regional Championship last Saturday helped boost the two into the final race.
The two third-year runners led Syracuse to a fifth-place team finish at Van Cortlandt Park in the first 10K run of the season on November 15 with their respective times of 32:01.2 and 32:03.3.
On Sunday evening, the two harriers discovered their fate on Sunday night when the remaining selections were announced to round out the championship competition. In regards to team-qualifying, the top two teams in each regional, nine in all, automatically earn a spot in the final race. There are 13 at-large teams that also can land a spot in the national championship race.
Last season, senior Jeff Scull’s ninth-place finish at the Northeast Regional garnered SU's lone invitation to the NCAA Championship.
In addition to all that the cross country team has accomplished in 2008, six Orange harriers were named to the 2008 Division I Northeast Region USTFCCCA All-Region Team. On the women's side, Sang-Bender, along with junior Maegan Krifchin, sophomore Rebekah Mackay and freshman Lauren Penney, joined 21 other female student-athletes from the Northeast Region to complete the list. Miller and Busby also received the merit of being named to the 25-man All-Region Team.
For Sang-Bender and Busby, it was the third time they have been named to the Northeast All-Region Team. For the remaining four runners, it was their first postseason distinction.
The seven runners that will comprise the Orange women's lineup at the NCAA Championship includes Sang-Bender, Krifchin, Mackay, Penney, freshmen Heather Stephens and Lauryn Macfawn and sophomore Catherine Desarle. Sophomore Katie Hursey will be an alternate for the Orange contingent.
The aforementioned seven, along with Busby and Miller, look to make history at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course at the Wabash Family Sports Center on Monday, November 24, at the NCAA Championship hosted by Indiana State University.
