NEW ORLEANS, La. – For the second consecutive day, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its 2007 postseason scholastic honors with a hint of Orange. The Syracuse men and women’s cross country teams have earned all-academic accolades, the association announced Wednesday.
“We’ve always stressed the importance of success in the classroom before success on the course,” said third-year Syracuse head coach Chris Fox. “With the grinds of efficiently balancing studies with practice time and all the aspects of competition, this honor is truly a testament to our student-athletes.”
The Orange women (3.55) were one of the 35 programs in the country boasting a team GPA higher than 3.5, while the SU men totaled an average GPA of 3.22.
The annual USTFCCCA laurel recognizes programs at the Division I level with a team GPA better than 3.0. For a program to be considered for the association’s all-academic award, it must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Meet.
The USTFCCCA’s latest announcement comes on the heels of four Orange student-athletes earning individual scholastic distinction. Senior Liz Cufari, junior Jeff Scull, sophomore Dan Busby and freshman Katie Hursey claimed USTFCCCA All-Academic honors.
