The Syracuse field hockey team will learn its fate later today during the 2009 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Selection Announcement which is scheduled to air tonight, Tuesday, November 10, at 8 p.m. The show will be streamed online via NCAA.com with Microsoft Silverlight serving as the platform for the viewing show.
No. 8 Syracuse defeated the No. 4 seed Providence Friars 2-1 in the semifinals of the BIG EAST Championship on Nov. 7, before losing to No. 2 seed Connecticut. It was SU's eighth trip to the Championship final, second-most in BIG EAST history. The Orange previously earned the No. 8 ranking in the Sept. 8 poll, to which they responded with a BIG EAST-high 12-game win streak.
Now tonight the team will find out which opponent it will be competing against in the first round and whether it will travel or host the first two rounds of the tournament on November 14-15 here at J.S. Coyne Stadium.
Only 16 teams make NCAA Division I Field Hockey Tournament, with automatic bids going to the winners of the Division I field hockey conference championships and the remaining spots going to other teams based on their performances throughout the season.
