SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Rising senior defensive specialist Sarah Hayes has been selected captain by team vote for the 2010 season.
"I'm excited to be captain," Hayes said. "It is awesome to be chosen by such great teammates to represent them. Everyone is already very focused and ready for improvement and another successful season."
A three-year letterwinner, Hayes has helped the Orange to three-straight postseason tournament appearances, a first for SU since 1991-93. The Cypress, Texas native logged 107 digs to average 1.22 digs per set in 2009 while ranking third on the team with 14 service aces.
Syracuse finished the season 21-11 overall and 9-6 in the BIG EAST. The Orange earned the fifth seed in the conference tournament falling, 3-0, to eventual champion Louisville in the first round. The season marked the eighth 20-win campaign and eighth BIG EAST Championship appearance in head coach Jing Pu's 15-year tenure. Pu recently announced the signing of a pair of Ontario natives, Samantha Clarey and Lindsay McCabe, to National Letters of Intent for the 2010 season.
