VILLANOVA, Pa. – For the second time since the first two matches of the season, the Orange tennis team (11-5, 5-2) swept its second consecutive opponent, 7-0, on Saturday afternoon against Villanova.
Syracuse traveled to the Keystone State after picking apart Connecticut and Providence, 6-1, 7-0, respectively in the final two home matches of the season last weekend.
The Orange doubles component was all over the Wildcats from the first serve as SU has claimed 14-of-16 doubles points this season.
At the No. 1 fixture, freshman Emily Harman and sophomore Christina Tan toppled Jaclyn Williamson and Courtney Reed, 8-2, for their team-best 13th triumph of the season.
The No. 2 junior pairing of Ashley Spicer and Chelsea Jones recorded their 11th doubles win of the year after going through Carla Erskine and Daniella Phillis, 8-1. Sophomore Simone Kalhorn and first-year netter Alessondra Parra ousted their opponents, Allison Solberg and Kristin Gobberg, by the same total for the doubles sweep at the No. 3 point.
Syracuse's singles corps allowed only 12 points out of a possible 72, expelling its foes with dominating scores.
Harman notched her third straight singles victory at the No. 1 spot with a 6-0, 6-2 count against Erskine.
Tan represented SU's No. 2 spot with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph against Williamson while Kalhorn combated her opponent in a 6-1, 6-0 win at the No. 3 contest.
Parra, after returning from a minor injury, got back into the swing of things with a 6-2, 6-2 win against Lyndsey Lostritto at the No. 4 while Spicer hammered Gobberg, 6-1, 6-2, at the No. 5 match.
Jones extended her team-best fourth consecutive singles win at the No. 6 post with a 6-1, 6-0 take against Emily Urda.
Sophomore Jacquleynn Tang handled Elizabeth Spelman, 8-2, in the lone exhibition match of the afternoon.
The Orange will trek it across Pennsylvania for a 10:00 a.m. first serve against Pittsburgh tomorrow, March 29. Syracuse is looking to make it four straight victories as the win would be extra sweet against a Panthers squad that is 5-0 in BIG EAST action.
