
SU Hosts Colgate On Senior Day

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The top-ranked Orange (11-2) will attempt to end a two-game series losing streak when it faces No. 19 Colgate (9-5) on Saturday, May 2 at 2 p.m. in its regular-season finale at the Carrier Dome. Syracuse is looking to avenge a 12-5 loss at the Dome in 2007 and a 12-11 defeat at Andy Kerr Stadium in Hamilton last season.
The contest is the final regular-season home game for 13 Orange players, including 11 seniors, who will be honored in a brief ceremony prior to the game. Saturday's game also represents the 200th men's lacrosse game contested in the Dome since 1981. The Orange is 175-24 (.879) all-time at the Dome.
Tickets are available online at SUathletics.com, over the phone (1-888-DOMETIX), or in person at the Carrier Dome Box Office during normal business hours. Fans will be able to receive their tickets right after purchase by using the "Ticketfast" delivery method. 'Cuse Kids Club members get in free with their membership card.
Saturday's game will air live locally on Time Warner Sports 26 in Syracuse. Fans can listen to the action via the Syracuse ISP Sports Network's flagship station TK 99 (99.5 FM). The audio and video streams of the broadcast are available world-wide on SUathletics.com as part of Orange All Access.
SENIOR DAY AT THE DOME
Thirteen players will be honored prior to the Colgate game in a short ceremony as part of Senior Day. Matt Abbott, Anthony Bucco, Mark Cahak, Dan Hardy, Scott Kahoe, Sean McGonigle, Jake Moulton, Greg Niewieroski, Kenny Nims, Pat Perritt, Sid Smith, Spencer Van Schaack and Michael Williams will be introduced individually before the start of the game.
ABOUT THE SERIES
Syracuse owns a 42-11-1 lead in the all-time series against the Raiders. The Orange won 17 of the 18 contests between the two teams from 1967 to 2006, however, Colgate has gotten the better of Syracuse the past two seasons to tie its series-best winning streak. In the 1977 pairing, Syracuse set school records for goals scored (30) and margin of victory (28) in a 30-2 home victory.
DESKO VERSUS COLGATE
This season's meeting marks the fifth time under Orange head coach John Desko and the fourth consecutive season the two teams have met. Desko is 2-2 all-time against the Raiders, posting wins in 2001 (12-5) and 2006 (17-8).
SCOUTING COLGATE
The Raiders are 9-5 overall and finished 5-1 in the Patriot League. Colgate was the second seed in the Patriot League Tournament and was upended, 9-8, in three overtimes by eventual conference tournament champion Navy in the semifinals. Colgate is led by Tewaaraton Trophy candidate Brandon Corp. Corp, a senior from Chittenango, is was named the Patriot League Player of the Year for the third straight season. Corp is the nation's leader in scoring at 4.21 ppg. He leads the Raiders with 25 assists and is second on the team with 34 goals. Classmate Kevin Colleluori leads Colgate in goals (37) and ranks fourth nationally in goals per game (2.85). Goalie Tim Harrington has been the keeper of record in all 14 contests. Harrington owns a 9.62 goals-against average and has 140 saves.
Head coach Jim Nagle is in his eighth season with the Raiders. He has 72-48 record at Colgate and a 137-87 career college coaching mark. He guided the Raiders to the 2008 Patriot League Championship and was named the league's coach of the year in 2003 and 2006.
