SYRACUSE - The Syracuse University field hockey game against Massachusetts at J.S. Coyne Stadium on Saturday, October 3 originally scheduled for noon has been moved to 1 p.m. The time change was made to accommodate Orange field hockey fans traveling to campus. The Orange football team hosts South Florida at noon at the Carrier Dome and the hour separation between contests will alleviate traffic issues.
The SU field hockey team opens the season on Friday, August 28 at Northeastern at 2 p.m.
With a solid corps of returning veterans to go along with an infusion of new talent, the 2009 Orange has its sights set on a return to the NCAA National Semifinals – and beyond. The Orange made a strong statement in 2008, winning the BIG EAST regular season and tournament championships in the same season for the first time since 2001 and fourth time overall.
“We're determined to succeed. However, we have to recognize we're a new team, not the 2008 team. They have set a standard for us, as the 2009 team, and we have the opportunity before us to rewrite their history,” said head coach Ange Bradley. “Our ultimate goal is to win a BIG EAST Championship and a National Championship. That will be our goal every year. We have talent, speed and we are excited to begin our journey as the 2009 team.”
