Rookie setter Laura Homann was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week after helping Syracuse to a 3-0 record and the Big Orange Tournament title with wins over New Hampshire, Siena and Sacramento State. Senior middle blocker Sarah Morton was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for her weekend performances.
Homann made the transition to the collegiate level look easy, stepping into the role of starting setter and averaging 10.91 assists through three games. She dished out 39 assists in her collegiate debut against Hampshire, had 35 assists in SU's 3-0 victory against Siena and posted a double-double (46 assists, 16 digs) in a 3-2 victory against Sacramento State.
Morton, the Big Orange Tournament MVP, was named to the weekly honor roll after recording 30 kills and 26 total blocks through the three tournament matches. She was a deciding factor for the Orange in its five-game thriller against Sacramento State, shutting down the Hornets at the net with six solo stops and nine block assists.
The Orange returns to the court on Tuesday, September 1 when it travels north to take on Niagara at 6 p.m.
