SYRACUSE – The eighth-ranked Syracuse University field hockey team remains inside the friendly confines of J.S. Coyne Stadium this weekend as the Orange plays host to No. 9 Old Dominion on Fri., Sept. 11 at 3 p.m. and No. 7 Michigan State on Sun., Sept. 13 at 1 p.m.
The Lady Monarchs and Spartans will play each other on Sat., Sept. 12 at 2 p.m. at J.S. Coyne Stadium.
The Orange and Lady Monarchs have met twice, with both teams winning once. ODU defeated SU, 3-1, in Ann Arbor, Mich. in 2004. Syracuse returned the favor, taking home a 5-0 decision last year in Collegeville, Pa.
SU holds a 4-2 edge in the all-time series against Michigan State. The Orange won the first three games in 1988, 1992 and 1995. MSU took the next two in 1996 and 2002. Syracuse got the best of the Spartans last season, winning 3-1 in East Lansing. Michigan State is 1-0 (1996) all-time in the Salt City.
The Orange moved to 3-1 on the young season after going 1-1 last weekend. SU defeated the Buckeyes, 3-2, in overtime on Sept. 4, but lost to the Tigers by the identical score in overtime on Sept 6. Junior forward Lindsey Conrad has recorded a team-best eight points off a team-high four goals. Freshman back Amy Kee has registered a team-best four assists. Freshman goalkeeper Leann Stiver has a goal-against-average of 1.78 in the cage for the Orange.
