SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse tennis team opened its fall schedule in Maryland over the weekend at the three-day Maryland Invitational. The Orange competed in both doubles and singles play with freshman C.C. Sardinha and junior Simone Kalhorn winning their singles flights.
Sardinha was crowned the A flight singles champion, compiling a 5-0 record after defeating opponents from Howard, Yale and Radford. Kalhorn also posted a 5-0 mark to claim the flight B singles title, defeating opponents from Maryland and Howard.
Sophomore Alessondra Parra earned a second-place finish in B flight singles with a 4-0 record while sophomore Emily Harman and junior Jacquelynn Tang each posted a pair of wins in singles play.
In doubles play, Harman teamed up with junior Christina Tan to post a 2-1 record in doubles play while Kalhorn and Parra were also 2-1 as a team.
The Orange is back in action on Friday, September 25, traveling to West Point, N.Y. for the Army Invitational.
