SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse tennis team looks to continue its early-season success on the court over the weekend, traveling to the Eastern Championships hosted by Army. Thirty-one teams, including the Orange will be competing in both doubles and singles play at the three-day tournament, which is in its 11th season.
“We are hoping to carry our winning momentum into this weekend's competition at Army,” assistant coach Shelley George said. “There are a lot of good teams, including some BIG EAST schools who we are anxious to compete against. The team is ready to win!”
Four Syracuse players earned top two seeds in singles play entering the weekend. Junior Christina Tan is seeded second in the first singles flight while freshman #C.C. Sardinha#, who captured the A flight singles title at the Maryland Invite, is the top seeded player in the second singles flight. Sophomore Emily Harman is the No. 1 seed in the third singles flight, while junior Simone Kalhorn, who was champion of the B flight singles in Maryland, earned top billing in the fourth singles flight.
In doubles play, sophomores Allison Haynes and Alessondra Parra are featured in the first doubles flight, while the duo of Victoria Ford and Jacquelynn Tang are slated to compete in the second doubles flight.
Though no team scores will be kept, the results of the weekend will count toward the student-athletes individual records.
