SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior Geoff Lytle (Miami Beach, Fla.) of the Orange men's soccer team and field hockey student-athlete, senior Maggie Befort (Mechanicsburg, Pa.), are the Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the week of Oct. 18, 2010.
As a midfielder, Lytle has played in all 13 games with eight starts and has recorded two assists this season. He has been a member of the BIG EAST All-Academic Team in all three years of his career at Syracuse.
Lytle, a civil engineering major, and four other Orange seniors will be honored prior to SU's senior night game on Saturday, Oct. 23. Syracuse will welcome BIG EAST opponent Rutgers for a 7 p.m. start. The Orange will wrap up action at the SU Soccer Stadium on Wednesday, Oct. 27 against Louisville before finishing out the regular season at Cincinnati on Oct. 30.
Befort is SU's all-time leading scorer with 120 points on 36 goals and 48 assists. Her 48 assists rank second all-time on Syracuse's career assist chart, while her 36 goals are fifth all-time. She has tallied 15 points on six goals and three assists this season. The senior back recently recorded a hat trick in an 11-0 win at Georgetown on Saturday.
Befort, an environmental engineering major, and the Orange will finishing out the remainder of the regular season with three games on its home turf. SU will first host No. 5 Connecticut in a BIG EAST showdown on Saturday, Oct. 23 at noon at J.S. Coyne Stadium.
