SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Seniors Justin Arena (Potomac, Md.) of the Orange men's soccer team and volleyball student-athlete Sarah Hayes (Cypress, Texas) are the Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the week of Oct. 4, 2010.
Arena has played in all nine games for Syracuse on defense. He is part of the defensive core that has recorded two shutouts this season. Last season, he was a BIG EAST All-Academic Team selection and a member of the SU Athletic Director's Honor Roll in the fall.
Arena, a dual major in marketing and television, radio and film, and the rest of the Orange will welcome Colgate to the SU Soccer Stadium on Wednesday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m.
As one of SU's team captains, Hayes has helped the Orange register its best overall record in program history thus far at 18-2. She has recorded a team high 22 service aces and is second on the team in digs with 118. Hayes became the primary libero for the team prior to the Georgetown matchup on Sept. 24.
Hayes, a dual major in entrepreneurship and emerging enterprises and marketing management, and the Orange will host BIG EAST opponent Connecticut on Friday, Oct. 8 at the Women's Building at 7 p.m. Syracuse is 1-2 in conference play this season.
