
SU Takes On In-State Foe, Colgate

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse University women's ice hockey team heads to Hamilton, N.Y. on Tuesday for a nonconference matchup with Colgate at 7 p.m. at Starr Rink. The Orange will look for its first win against the Raiders as it holds a 3-0 advantage in the series. The game will be streamed live on Orange All-Access via SUathletics.com and live stats will be available at GoColgateRaiders.com.
Colgate has edged Syracuse by just one goal in each of the three meetings between the two teams. Last year's contest at SU's Tennity Ice Pavilion was forced into overtime, where the Raiders came away with a 5-4 victory. The Orange secured a 4-1 lead after the first period, but could not hold off Colgate's counterattack. Then-freshman Holly Carrie-Mattimoe paced SU with a goal and two assists.
Syracuse was idol last weekend and remains 5-5-1 overall, while the Raiders are 5-9 overall and 2-4 in Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) play. Both squads will look to build on a one-game winning streak. SU beat Clarkson, 3-1, on Nov. 12 and Colgate defeated Princeton, 2-0, on Nov. 20.
Sophomore Isabel Menard leads the Orange with seven goals and 12 assists for 19 points this season. She is tied for second in the CHA and tied for fifth nationally with 1.09 helpers per game. Her 1.73 points per game are tied for ninth nationally and are tied for third in the CHA. Senior Ashley Cockell is seventh in the nation and third in the CHA in scoring by a defenseman with .82 points per game. As a team, Syracuse is averaging 3.09 goals per game, which ranks 12th nationally and second in the CHA. Colgate is averaging 1.57 points per outing, while giving up 2.64 to its opponents.
Colgate is led by Brittany Phillips' four goals and five assists. Junior goaltender Kimberly Sass owns a goals against-average of 2.25 and a saves percentage of .924.
