SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Syracuse (6-0) welcomes in-state foe Albany (6-1) to the Carrier Dome on Monday, December 6 at 7 p.m. The Orange lookds to move to 7-0 for the second consecutive season with a win against the Great Danes while extending its non-conference home winning streak to 35 games.

Last Time Out
Syracuse turned in one of its most dominating defensive performances of the season defeating Delaware State, 87-17 on Saturday afternoon at the Carrier Dome. The Orange held the Hornets to 14.0 percent (7-50) shooting from the floor, including 3.6 percent (1-28) in the second half. The 17 points allowed marked a programrecord for fewest allowed.
Sophomore guard Carmen Tyson-Thomas led the way for the Orange with 15 points and nine rebounds while classmate Elashier Hall also netted 15. Redshirt freshman forward Shakeya Leary rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points while adding a game-high tying nine rebounds. Senior guards Erica Morrow and Tasha Harris directed the offense, dishing out five and four assists, respectively.
Sophomore center Kayla Alexander helped guide the Orange to a 53-30 advantage in rebounding and a 42-10 edge in points in the paint. Alexander paired eight rebounds with nine assists while adding a career-best nine blocks.
USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll
For the fourth consecutive season the Orange is receiving national attention. Syracuse garnered two votes in the most recent USA today/ESPN Coaches Poll, putting SU in a tie for 34th. The Orange has now received votes or been ranked for 37 weeks during the last four seasons.
UNDEFEATED
Syracuse is 6-0 for the second consecutive season. An Orange victory against Albany will give SU a 7-0 record for the second straight year. It would be the sixth 7-0 start in program history.
NOVEMBER
The Orange likes the month of November. SU has won its last 11 games in November since Nov. 26, 2008. Syracuse was perfect in the month of November for the second consecutive year. In fact, the Orange is 18-3 (.857) in November over the last four years.
DECEMBER
SU has been more successful in the month of December, winning its last 24 games dating back to Dec. 22, 2006.
NON-CONFERENCE SUCCESS
Syracuse has won 34 consecutive non-conference home games (28 in the Carrier Dome). SU's last non-conference loss at home came on Dec. 22, 2006 against Canisius (56-43). The Orange has also won 26 straight regular season non-conference games, back to Nov. 26, 2008.
MS. DOUBLE-DOUBLE
Guard Carmen Tyson-Thomas was one rebound short of registering her fourth double-double of the year, matching 15 points with nine rebounds against Delaware State. She was 50 percent (5-10) from the floor and perfect from the free-throw line (5-5) while adding two assists and two steals in just 17 minutes.
The sophomore recorded her fifth career double-double with 10 points a career-best 13 rebounds as Syracuse defeated UMES, 73-50, on Dec. 2. She also registered a double-double in the season opener with 15 points and 12 rebounds and in SU's win against Long Island, posting 16 points and 10
rebounds.
The Philadelphia native is leading the Orange in rebounds (9.0) and is tied for second in points (11.5). Tyson-Thomas is also pacing the Orange in free-throw percentage, making 82.6 (19-23) of her attempts.
NO THANK YOU
Center Kayla Alexander keeps shinning on the defensive end of the court. The sophomore combined a career-best nine blocks with nine points, eight rebounds and three steals versus Delaware State.
The 2009-10 BIG EAST All-Rookie Team honoree leads the team in points (16.2), field-goal percentage (.654) and blocks (4.3) and is second in rebounds (7.0). She has also made (29) and attempted (37) a team-best number of free throws.
ENERGY ON THE FLOOR
Guard Elashier Hall has added energy to the Orange starting line-up. The sophomore has started all six games, averaging 8.8 points and 5.5 rebounds. Hall has made 78.6 percent (22-28) of her free throws in the process.
The Washington, D.C. native recorded a career-best 15 points against Delaware State. She was 5-of-7 (.714) the floor, including a perfect 2-of-2 from behind the 3-point line. Hall added five rebounds and was a perfect 3-of-3 from the free throw line.
OFF THE BENCH
Forward Shakeya Leary has made an impact off the bench. The redshirt freshman posted 10 points and a game-high tying nine rebounds versus Delaware State.
The Brooklyn, N.Y. native is third in the team in rebounds (6.5). She is also averaging 8.8 points per game.
DEFENSE HAS BEEN IMPRESSIVE
Syracuse has done a great job on the defensive end of the floor. The Orange held Delaware State to 17 points on 14.0 percent (7-50) shooting from the floor, including 3.6 percent (1-28) in the second half. SU recorded 15 steals, while forcing 32 turnovers.
The Orange is limiting its opponents to just 43.8 points per game and 28.0 percent shooting. SU is averaging 15.0 steals per game and forces and an average of 25.8 turnovers per game.
REBOUNDING IS WHAT WE DO
The Orange has made rebounding a habit since head coach Quentin Hillsman took the reins of the program. Three of the top four rebounding performances in Syracuse history have come during the last three seasons.
Syracuse has outrebounded all six of its opponents this season by an average of 20.0. SU has grabbed 65 rebounds against Northeastern, 52 versus Cornell, 56 against Maryland Eastern Shore and 53 versus Delaware State. The Orange also registered 37, 22, 21 and 24 offensive rebounds in those games, respectively.
TEAM WORK IS GOOD
The Orange recorded 16 assists in its victory versus Delaware State. Syracuse is averaging 16.2 assists per game and recorded 67 in its last three outings.
SCOUTING ALBANY
Katie Abrahamson-Henderson, who is in her first season as head coach, has the Great Danes off to a 6-1 start, including five consecutive wins to begin the season. Ebone Henry leads the team in scoring at 16.0 points per game and is second on the squad with 8.8 rebounds per contest. Julie Forster is among the nation's top rebounders (11.3 pg) and is third on the team with 11.2 points per game. Foster has four double-doubles this season. Felicia Johnson is also averaging double-figures (11.9) and leads the Great Danes in assists (4.3) and steals (1.2).
UAlbany is shooting 35.7 percent (145-406) from the floor as a team. UAlbany has forced its opponents to commit 142 turnovers, including 63 steals.
SERIES NOTES
The Orange won the only two meetings between these schools. SU won the first encounter, 66-56, on Dec. 7 2004 at Manley Field House. The Orange also took the second matchup, 70-52, on Dec. 20, 2005 in the Capital City. Head coach Quentin Hillsman was on the SU bench as an assistant at the time.
WELCOME BACK GRIMES
A very familiar face will be on the Albany bench Monday night, as former SU assistant coach Mary Grimes makes her return to the Dome. Grimes, who spent five seasons with the Orange, was responsible for all recruiting efforts, including developing and maintaining the recruit database, serving as the compliance liaison and coordinating all visits and transcripts.
Grimes helped recruit the Collegiate Girls Basketball Report's eighth-ranked class in 2009, and coached numerous All-BIG EAST Conference honorees, including Nicole Michael, an Associated Press honorable mention All-American last season. Syracuse made one NCAA and two WNIT appearances during her tenure and recorded bac-kto-back winning campaigns for the first time in nine years.
