
Morton Attends US National Team Tryout

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior middle blocker Sarah Morton has accepted an invitation to try out for the U.S. Women's National Team. The tryout will be held Feb. 19-21 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The Burnt Hills, N.Y. native is one of 46 middle blockers and 177 total athletes who will be attending the tryout. Tryout participants, who represent 81 colleges, will vie for a spot on the U.S. Women's National Team and the U.S. Women's Senior A2 Teams.
National team head coach Hugh McCutcheon will lead the evaluation process alongside members of the national team, Karch Kiraly and Jamie Morrison. A projected 24 athletes will be chosen from the field to participate in the program, which will include training and competition in the 2010 Adult Open Championships, considered the national championship of U.S. volleyball.
Morton led NCAA Division I in total blocks (186) and solo blocks (52) from the duration of the season during her senior campaign while finishing third nationally in blocks per set (1.52). She finished her four-year career as the best blocker ever to play at SU, setting career records in total blocks, solo blocks, block assists and blocks per set while notching single-season marks in total blocks and blocks per set as a senior.
A two-time All-BIG EAST first team selection, Morton plans to pursue a career in professional volleyball after graduating from Syracuse in May 2010.
