Orange Crush: Syracuse Sweeps Colgate

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse tennis team wasted no time in putting away Central New York foe Colgate, 7-0, Thursday afternoon at the Drumlins Tennis Center. The win is the sixth in a row for the Orange squad, who have now moved to 12-2 for the season.
Sophomore Emily Harman was back at the No. 1 singles position and claimed her 10th singles victory of the season by beating Colgate's Elise DeRose, with set scores of 6-4 and 6-2. Senior Eleanor Peters went 6-3 and 6-2 in her sets against Samantha Inacker at the No. 2 spot to claim her 14th singles victory of the season. Alessondra Parra moved up to the No. 3 singles spot and handily beat Colgate's Cameron Williams with twin set scores of 6-1.
Co-captains Simone Kalhorn and Christina Tan were strong at the No. 4 and No. 5 positions, respectively. Kalhorn beat Colgate's Jackie Stimmel, 6-1 and 6-2, while Tan beat Stephanie Brown, 6-1 and 6-1.
Senior Chelsea Jones played her first non-exhibition singles match at the No. 6 position and dominated Colgate's Merideth Rock, shutting her out in both sets with a score of 6-0.
Doubles action featured more Orange dominance as Harman and Tan teamed up to earn their fifth doubles victory together against Colgate's DeRose and Williams with a score of 8-6. Parra and Peters teamed up at the No. 2 doubles spot to defeat Inacker and Bender, 8-3, while Kalhorn and Jones shut out Colgate's Stimmel and Rock in an 8-0 set.
Syracuse has not lost to a New York State opponent all season, going 7-0 against teams hailing from the Empire State. They put that streak on the line Friday afternoon when they host Binghamton at 3 p.m. Check SUAthletics.com for results from the match.
