SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse tennis team will take on Temple in its last regular season match on Saturday, April 10. The 10 a.m. match will mark the senior day for seniors Chelsea Jones and Eleanor Peters. The Orange hopes to extend their 12-match win streak and improve upon their program-best 18-2 record for the season. After Saturday's match, the Orange has the BIG EAST Tournament to look forward to. The tournament takes place April 22nd-25th in South Bend, Ind.
Orange Makes Program History
The Syracuse tennis team is in the midst of its most successful season in program history by piling up 18 victories so far this season, a school record for wins in a single season. The previous record was 16 wins in a season, a feat that had been done four times prior- in 1992-93, 1999-00, 2005-06 and in 2008-09.
Sardinha Earns BIG EAST Honors
Freshman CC Sardinha was named women's BIG EAST Tennis Player of the Week on Wednesday, April 7th. Sardinha went undefeated in the team's last three matches, notching six total victories in both singles and doubles. In all of the matches, Sardinha played at the No. 1 spot for both singles and doubles play. At the start of the season, Sardinha was the No. 6 singles player on the squad before working her way up to the No. 1 spot, where she's played 12 matches.
Coloring the BIG EAST Orange
At 7-0 in conference matches, the Orange has remained perfect against all of their BIG EAST foes this season. Syracuse has dominated in every one of their conference matches, outscoring their opponents 45-4 in dual matches. This dominance in conference play can only help the team's chances at this year's BIG EAST Championships, which take place April 22-25 in South Bend, Ind.
Streaking to the End
The Orange are currently riding a 12-match win streak, with only match remaining in their regular season schedule. The last time the Orange lost was on February 21, when it dropped a match to Princeton, 1-6. The team has also remained undefeated at home, with a record of 8-0.
Last Regular Season Opponent Awaits Orange on Senior Day
The Temple Owls will be the Orange's final regular season opponent for the 2009-10 season. The match will be held on Saturday, April 10th at 10 a.m. at the Drumlins Tennis Center. Syracuse's two senior student-athletes, Chelsea Jones and Eleanor Peters, will be honored as part of the team's annual Senior Day. Check SUAthletics for all results and highlights from the match.
