Middle blocker Lindsay McCabe has earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors for her performances at the Rose Hill Classic, the conference announced today. It is the first Freshman of the Week honor for McCabe and the second weekly award for the Orange this season. Junior outside hitter Noemie Lefebvre was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
McCabe and Lefebvre led the Orange to a 5-0 week and the Rose Hill Classic title, its third tournament championship of the season. During the week, Syracuse defeated its opponents by a margin of 15-0 with five-straight sweeps. The duo has also helped Syracuse to a 12-0 overall record, marking the best season start in program history.
McCabe earned Rose Hill Classic All-Tournament team honors, averaging 2.83 kills per set and 0.75 blocks per set while hitting a blistering .527 in tournament play. The Georgetown, Ontario native notched 40 kills and 10 total blocks while hitting .478 during the week.
Lefebvre earned Rose Hill Classic MVP honors, leading the Orange with 3.82 kills per set and 2.18 digs per set while hitting .374 through the four matches.
This marks the third-straight week Syracuse has had a student-athlete named in the BIG EAST weekly awards. Lefebvre earned the first Player of the Week award this season while senior outside hitter Hayley Todd garnered BIG EAST Honor Roll mention in week two. It also marks the second-consecutive season the Orange has had a BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honoree as setter Laura Homann earned the award twice last season.
McCabe, Lefebvre and the Orange return to the court on Tuesday, September 14 when it hosts Niagara in the Women's Building at 7 p.m.
