SYRACUSE, N.Y. – No. 9/10 Syracuse looks to return to its winning ways when it hosts BIG EAST foe Seton Hall on Tuesday, January 25 in the Carrier Dome. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. The Orange enters the contest with an overall record of 18-2 and a 5-2 mark in conference action. The Pirates are 8-12 overall, 2-6 in the BIG EAST.

JOSEPH RETURNS TO THE LINEUP
Junior Kris Joseph was back in the starting lineup against Villanova after missing one game with a head injury. Jones played 34 minutes against the Wildcats and led all scorers with 23 points. He also had three rebounds, two assists, two blocked shots and one steal.
This season, Joseph leads the team and ranks 12th in the BIG EAST in scoring, averaging 15.0 points per game.
TRICHE INCREASES OFFENSIVE PRODUCTION
Sophomore Brandon Triche has reached double figures in scoring in five consecutive games and in nine of his last 11 outings. In the Orange's last five contests, Triche has averaged 13.2 points per game. During that stretch, he is 25-for-48 (.521) from the field, including 13-for-26 (.500) from three-point range. With his recent performance, Triche has raised his season scoring average to 10.3 points per game.
SYRACUSE-SETON HALL ROUND ONE REVIEW
Sophomore Brandon Triche scored all 15 of his points in the second half to lead Syracuse to a 61-56 victory at Seton Hall on January 8. Triche was 5-for-7 from the field, including 4-for-5 from three-point range. Junior Kris Joseph also had 15 points to go along with eight rebounds. Senior Rick Jackson led the Orange on the boards with 14.
Both team struggled on the offensive end in the first half, which ended with the Orange leading, 20-19. Syracuse's defense limited Seton Hall to 8-for-35 (22.9 percent) from the floor in the first half, including 0-for-17 from three-point range. Meanwhile, Syracuse's 20 points is its lowest point total in a half this season.
Triche scored 11 of the Orange's first 18 points of the second half as SU built a 10-point advantage at the 13:33 mark. Leading by six with 9:54 on the clock, junior Scoop Jardine's two free throws started the Orange on an 8-0 scoring run that gave SU its largest lead of the game. The Pirates came back and cut the lead to three, but that was as close as they could get as Jardine scored five points in the final two minutes as the Orange recorded the six-point victory.
A CLOSER LOOK AT THE ORANGE
Syracuse suffered its first home setback of the season in an 83-72 loss to No. 7/7 Villanova on Saturday, January 22. The game was played in front of 33,736 fans in the Carrier Dome, the second-largest on-campus crowd in college basketball history.
The first seven minutes of the game featured seven lead changes before Villanova took a 10-point lead at the 10:04 mark. The Wildcats led by as many as 14 in the first half and held a 40-29 advantage at intermission.
Villanova maintained a double-digit lead for much of the second half before the Orange used a 9-0 scoring run to the cut the lead to 69-55 with 2:41 remaining. Junior Kris Joseph had four points during the run on his way to a game-high 23 points. The Wildcats sank four consecutive shots from the charity stripe to take an eight-point lead. Following a dunk by Orange freshman BayeMoussa Keita, Villanova went 8-for-8 from the free throw line in the final two minutes to secure the win.
Joseph was one of three players to score in double digits for Syracuse. Senior Rick Jackson scored 16 points, while sophomore Brandon Triche added 14. Maalik Wayns led Villanova with 21 points.
SCOUTING SETON HALL
Seton Hall enters Tuesday's game having lost three in a row and six of its last seven games. The Pirates' last victory was a 78-67 win at DePaul on January 12.
Leading scorer Jeremy Hazell has returned to the Seton Hall lineup after missing nearly two months with a wrist injury. Hazell, who did not play in the first meeting between Syracuse and Seton Hall this season, is averaging 19.1 points per game. He is one four Pirates averaging double figures in scoring this season. Jeff Robinson is averaging 12.6 points per game, while Jordan Theodore is contributing 11.4 points per contest. Herb Pope averages 10.2 points per game to along with his team-best 9.3 rebounds per outing. In the first meeting between the two schools, Pope posted a double-double with 14 points and 20 rebounds.
Kevin Willard is in his first year at the helm of the Seton Hall program. He was hired on March 29, 2010 as the 19th head coach in school history. Willard served as head coach at Iona for three years, guiding the Gaels to a 21-10 overall record last season when he was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. Prior to taking over the Iona program, Willard spent the previous six seasons as an assistant and associate head coach at Louisville.
THE SERIES
Syracuse leads the all-time series against Seton Hall, 45-15. The Orange has won the past five meetings, including a 61-56 victory earlier this season.
Syracuse has dominated the series dating back to the 1980-81 campaign, when the Orange won 23 consecutive games against the Pirates. The Hall finally snapped its losing streak against SU in 1991-92 with an 86-76, victory, ending a 10-year drought.
