
Thompson Honored By Syracuse Alumni Club of Southern California

SYRACUSE, NY – Stephen “Stevie” Thompson '90, a three-year starter for the Syracuse basketball teams of the late 1980s, will be honored at the 25th Annual Distinguished Alumni Awards Luncheon in Los Angeles on October 29.
A Los Angeles native, Thompson helped lead the Orange to the 1987 NCAA National Championship game as well as Big East Conference championships in 1987 and 1990. He graduated third on Syracuse's all-time scoring list and still holds the second best shooting percentage in NCAA Tournament history behind UCLA legend Bill Walton. He was also named Big East Scholar Athlete of the Year as a senior in 1990. Thompson was a second team All-BIG EAST Conference selection as a junior and senior at Syracuse.
He holds the Syracuse records for NCAA games played (15) and career games played (144).
Thompson played professionally in the NBA with Orlando and Sacramento, and overseas, before becoming a college coach. He is currently the Head Men's Basketball Coach at Cal State-L.A., who the Orange host for their first exhibition game November 1 at the Carrier Dome. He has taken the Golden Eagles to two California Collegiate Athletic Association Championship Tournaments in the past three year and made the program one of the most improved in the NCAA Division II ranks.
The Syracuse University Alumni Club of Southern California's luncheon will be held at The Four Season Beverly Hills at noon on October 29. Tickets are $80 and can be purchased online at the SUACSC website.
