Dupont and Hinz named Orange Scholar Athletes

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Sam Hinz of the SU volleyball team and Pat Dupont of Orange cross country and track and field are the Syracuse University Scholar Athletes of the Week for October 3, 2011.
Hinz is a two-time member of the BIG EAST All-Academic Team and has been on the SU Athletic Director's Honor Roll four times. She is pursuing a degree in civil engineering.
A native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Hinz is having a standout year on the court. The junior leads the BIG EAST in blocks per set (1.47), block assists (83) and total blocks (97). Her blocks per set average ranks her 8th nationally.
Dupont, a music composition major, is a three time member of the BIG EAST All-Academic Team. The Fairport, N.Y. native has also been on the SU Athletic Directors Honor Roll every semester of his career.
A 2010 All-American, Dupont won his first race of 2011 at the Colgate Invitational with an 8K time of 25:18. Last week he placed 11th at the Paul Short Invitational.
Hinz and the Orange volleyball begin its four match home stand this Wednesday night at 7 p.m., against Colgate. The cross country team is back on the trails next weekend at the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational.
