Eight Orange Earn All-Region Status

Following a 19-4 season that saw the Orange win its second straight BIG EAST Tournament Championship and its fourth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament, eight members of the Syracuse field hockey team have been named Longstreth/NFHCA All-Region selections. Laura Hahnefeldt, Liz McInerney, Kelsey Millman and Heather Susek were all named First-Team honors, while Leonie Geyer, Amy Kee, Martina Loncarica and Nicole Nelson earned Second Team status.
Hahnefeldt (Hamburg, Germany) earns her second straight All-Region selection after finishing her sophomore season with one goal and three assists. Her lone goal of the season, the first of her career, came against Vermont on Oct. 16. She was part of a defense that that allowed one goal or less in 14 of the team's 22 games this season and is first in the BIG EAST and sixth in the nation with a 1.05 goals against average. She was an All-BIG EAST Preseason Team selection, and was named the SU Scholar-Athlete of the Week earlier this season.
McInerney, who is in her second season with the team, had six goals and 11 assists in 2011. Her 23 points are 10th in the BIG EAST while her 11 assists are sixth in the conference and 44th in the nation. The Dublin, Ireland native was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team as well as the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team, and tied the school record for assists in a game with three against Vermont on Oct. 16. McInerney was also named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week and conference Weekly Honor Roll twice this season.
Millman (Center Valley, Pa.) had a breakout season for the Orange in 2011, posting 19 goals and 13 assists. Her 51 points set a new SU junior class record, previously held by Yvonne Milionis in 1990, and broke the school record for points in a game against Georgetown on Oct. 14 with 10. Millman also tied the SU record for goals in a game with four against the Hoyas. She leads the BIG EAST in points and is tied for the league lead in goals with Susek, and is 17th and tied for 20th nationally in each respective category.
Millman had a 12-game scoring streak from Sept. 16-Oct. 23, when she had 37 points on 13 goals and 11 assists. She helped the Orange average 3.78 goals per game, which leads the BIG EAST and is sixth in the nation.
Susek, a 2010 Third Team All-American, finished her Syracuse career in a tie for fourth on the SU career goals list with 37. During her senior season, she was tied will Millman for the team and league lead in goals (19) while adding seven assists. She is 25th in the nation in points per game (1.96) and 20th in goals per game (0.83). In 74 career games, Susek had 88 points, which is ninth all-time at Syracuse. The 2011 BIG EAST Co-Offensive Player of the Year was also named to the NFHCA Senior Game this season.
Geyer (Neuss, Germany) was tied for the team and BIG EAST lead with four game-winning goals this season, and finished the year with 10 goals and 10 assists. She tied the school record for goals in a game with four against Vermont on Oct. 16., and the Orange was 11-1 this season when Geyer registered at least one point. The sophomore posted nine points against the Catamounts that day, which is tied for the second highest point total in one game in SU history.
Kee solidified a SU backline that shutout its opponents nine times this season, which is first in the BIG EAST and fourth in the country. In addition, Kee had five goals and three assists this season, including one game-winner. The Hertford, England native was used as a versatile weapon on penalty corners for the Orange, which drew 8.26 corners this year, the most in the conference and 14th in the nation.
Loncarica is the program's all-time leading scorer with 139 career points on 37 goals and 65 assists. Her 65 assists are also the most all-time at SU while her 37 goals are tied with Susek for the fourth-most in team history. Loncarica was selected to the NFHCA Senior Game, and was also the 2011 BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year. During her senior season, the Buenos Aires, Argentina native had six goals and 10 assists, including four goals via penalty stroke.
Nelson, a 2011 All-BIG EAST Second Team selection, had one goal this season while pacing the SU defense. The two-time Longstreth/NFHCA All-Mideast Region Second team honoree was also named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 19 and earned Weekly Honor Roll status on Oct. 31.
