SU Ranked Third In NFHCA Coaches Poll

The Syracuse field hockey team jumped two spots to No. 3 in the final Kookaburra/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Poll on Tuesday. The Orange, coming off its sixth BIG EAST Tournament championship in program history last weekend, will wait for the announcement of the in the 2011 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Tournament field with the Selection Show tonight at 8:00 p.m. on NCAA.com.
This is the highest that the Orange has been ranked in the NFHCA Coaches Poll since August 29, 2009 when SU was also ranked third. Syracuse has been ranked fifth for most of the 2011 season, and has been included among the nation's top-ten teams in each of the past 42 weeks.
Of the top-20 teams featured in the final NFHCA Coaches Poll, Syracuse has played against eight this season. SU is 6-2 against ranked teams this season.
Syracuse (18-3) earned an automatic bid to the national tournament win its win against Connecticut last weekend in the conference championship game. It will mark the seventh time in program history that the Orange has made the NCAA Tournament, and fourth in as many seasons.
