The Syracuse ice hockey team returns to the Tennity Ice Pavilion this weekend as the Orange hosts Lindenwood in a two-game set beginning Friday at 7:00 p.m. The Lions, playing as an independent institution this season, were admitted to College Hockey America in November and will begin play in the conference next season. SU is coming off a split at Rensselaer last weekend with a 4-3 win and 2-1 loss at Houston Field House.
Storylines Vs. The Lions
Lindenwood, which is 1-14-0 this season, was recently admitted into College Hockey America (CHA), and will begin play at the Division I level next season.
Freshman Allison Wickenheiser lead the Lions in scoring with six goals and 10 assists this season. Second to Wickenheiser is freshman Alyssa West who has three goals and four assists. Between the pipes is freshman goalkeeper Taylor Fairchild, who owns an 8.24 goals-against-average and a .853 save percentage.
Lindenwood's last win came on November 4th when the Lions bested the College of St. Benedict 7-1. They are currently on a four-game losing streak.
Up Next: Robert Morris
Syracuse will begin conference play with a weekend slate of games at Robert Morris on Dec. 9-10. Syracuse is 5-4-3 all-time against the Colonials, and has earned at least a point in each of the past five meetings. Robert Morris (10-2-1) and the Orange are 2-2-2 all time when the two teams meet in Moon Township, Pa.
Better Late Than Never
Of Syracuse's 38 goals this season, more than half of them (20) have come in the third period. The Orange's five goals in the final 20 minutes of play against Union on Oct. 22 were the most in the final frame in program history. SU's 20 third-period goals are the second most in the conference this season, and is the sixth most in the nation.
Scoring From The Blue Line
Through the first 16 games of the regular season, the Syracuse defensive unit has contributed in the offensive zone, as well. The Orange defensemen have combined for seven goals and 20 assists this season, including two game-winning tallies. Sophomore Caitlin Roach leads all SU defensemen with one goal and seven assists, while Kaillie Goodnough has paced the rookie blueliners with three goals and three helpers.
Mullan Returns To The Ice
After suffering an injury on Oct. 7 that sidelined her for 12 games, Lisa Mullan returned to the ice for the Orange against Rensselaer last weekend. Mullan, who has played in 105 career games at SU, has 21 goals and 25 assists during that span. She scored the game-winning goal against St. Cloud State in the team's season-opener on Sep. 30.
Goodnough Named To CHA Honor Roll
After scoring the game-winning goal and adding an assist in the first of two games against Rensselaer last weekend, freshman defenseman Kaillie Goodnough was named to the CHA Weekly Honor Roll on Monday. Goodnough is second among defensemen and rookies on the Orange this season with three goals and three assists. This is the second time this season that Goodnough has earned weekly conference honors. She was also named to the CHA Honor Roll after she scored her first collegiate goal against Clarkson on Oct. 14.
