Ice Hockey Cruises Past Lindenwood, 6-2

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse women's ice hockey team (7-10) scored three goals in a 2:10 span early in the second period to break open a scoreless game and cruise to a 6-2 victory against Lindenwood (1-15) on Friday night at the Tennity Ice Pavilion. The Orange's season-high six goals came from six different scorers while Steph Jones got the win in goal in her first start of the season.
The Orange and Lions, who will be joining College Hockey America in 2012-13, will square off again on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Tennity Ice Pavilion.
Syracuse dominated the game throughout, outshooting Lindenwood, 45-15, including a 14-1 margin in the scoreless first period.
The game did not stay scoreless for long in the second period as Allie Lacombe, Megan Skelly and Margot Scharfe scored at the 2:10, 3:52 and 4:20 marks, respectively, making it 3-0.
The Orange would go on to score two more in the middle stanza, as Shiann Darkangelo scored at the 14:06 mark and Holly Carrie-Mattimoe would tally her team-leading eighth of the season on the power play at the 17:14 mark.
Just under four minutes into the third period, Julie Knerr scored SU's final goal before the Lions added two late markers of their own by Samantha Moore with 2:19 left and by Allysson Arcibal with 26 seconds remaining.
Jones finished with 13 saves on the night while Lindenwood's Taylor Fairchild stopped 39 Syracuse shots.
