Syracuse Sweeps Seton Hall

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse tennis team secured its fifth win of the season when it swept visiting BIG EAST Conference foe Seton Hall, 7-0, Friday afternoon at the Drumlins Tennis Center. The win was the squad's second consecutive 7-0 sweep of an opponent. The Orange dominated every match in both singles and doubles play.
Junior Alessondra Parra played at the No. 1 singles spot and defeated Seton Hall's Pui Wing Sher in straight sets of 6-2 and 6-4. Fellow junior Emily Harman moved up to the No. 2 singles position for Friday's match and beat Seton Hall's Rocio Portela 6-0 in the first set before Portela forfeited in the second set to give Harman the win.
Freshmen Maddie Kobelt and Aleah Marrow earned wins at the No. 3 and No. 4 singles spots, respectively, while senior co-captain Christina Tan won in straight sets at the No. 5 position. Fellow senior co-captain Simone Kalhorn earned her 85th overall victory at the No. 6 spot, defeating Karina Cordero, 6-4, 6-0.
The doubles tandem of Harman and Kobelt moved to 4-1 on the season after their 8-1 win against Seton Hall's pairing of Sher and Portela. Kalhorn and Parra teamed up for an 8-2 rout of the Pirates duo Elizabeth Verow and Michelle Weerasinghe. Senior Jacquelynn Tang returned to the court to team up with Marrow at the No. 3 doubles spot. The pair defeated Seton Hall's Cordero and Belfin Sunbul, 8-4.
With the victory, the Orange remains a perfect 2-0 in conference play and moves to 5-1 on the season.
Syracuse returns to the court tomorrow afternoon to take on Buffalo in a 3 p.m. matchup. The squad will also entertain another BIG EAST opponent on Sunday morning when Cincinnati visits for a 10 a.m. contest.
