Syracuse 2, Robert Morris 2 OT
MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Sophomore Holly Carrie-Mattimoe tallied two goals as Syracuse tied Robert Morris 2-2 on Saturday at the Island Sports Center. The Orange and the Colonials played to a 2-2 draw in both games of the series.
Robert Morris freshman Thea Imbrogno gave the Colonials a 1-0 lead at the 12:02 mark of the first period on a man-up opportunity. Syracuse was held scoreless for 28:45 until Carrie-Mattimoe beat RMU goaltender Meeri Raisanen on a power-play. Freshmen Margot Scharfe and Akane Hosoyamada were credited with assists on the play.
Less than three minutes later, Robert Morris was whistled for another penalty and SU took advantage of the man-up opportunity. Sophomore Isabel Menard gave the puck to senior Ashley Cockell who found Carrie-Mattimoe for the score to put Syracuse up 2-1 heading into intermission.
At the 17:02 mark, Imbrogno stuck again to even the score 2-2. Neither team could manage the game-winning score in the third period and the Orange and the Colonials went to extra minutes for the second consecutive game.
Both teams fired two shots in the overtime period but the scored remained 2-2. All six of SU's overtime games this season have ended in a tie.
Menard helped Syracuse hold a 36-31 advantage in the faceoff circle, winning 18 of her 26 draws.
Freshman goaltender Kallie Billadeau made 36 saves in net for the Orange.
SU will return home on Feb. 25 and 26 for its final regular-season series against Niagara before hosting the 2011 CHA Tournament on Match 3-5.
